What’s new for the 2027 Bolt EV

The 2027 Bolt EV marks the return of one of the most affordable EVs in America after the original Bolt’s discontinuation in 2023. Chevy didn’t just dust off the old model. Three meaningful changes set the 2027 apart from anything that came before:

1. New LFP battery chemistry. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells in a 65 kWh pack. LFP is more thermally stable, longer-lasting, and cheaper to produce than the NMC cells in the original Bolt. The trade-off is slightly lower energy density, which is why GM-estimated range comes in at 255 miles rather than the original Bolt’s 259.
2. 150 kW DC fast charging and native NACS port. The original Bolt topped out at 55 kW. The 2027 jumps to 150 kW, which Chevy notes is over 2.5 times faster. The NACS connector is standard, so you plug directly into Tesla Supercharger stations without an adapter.
3. New RS trim and Google built-in. The lineup now offers LT and RS, both with an 11.3-inch Google-powered infotainment display, available Super Cruise, and a redesigned interior. The RS adds sport styling, unique wheels, and an Atomic Yellow exterior option.

Bolt isn’t electrified-Equinox-EV. It keeps the smaller hatchback footprint, the lighter curb weight, and the lower starting price that made the original a runaway hit. The redesign refines what worked rather than reinventing it.

Range, charging, and the NACS port

GM-estimated range is 255 miles on a full charge, consistent across both LT and RS trims. Real-world Chicago range varies with temperature, terrain, and driving style. DC fast charging maxes out at 150 kW, which adds significant range in about a 30-minute stop. The 2027 Bolt EV measures 169 inches long with a 105-inch wheelbase. Front legroom is 44.2 inches, rear legroom is 39.1 inches. The hatchback layout gives you 16.2 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seats, expanding to 56.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

Practical translation for an Oak Lawn family: a full Costco run plus a hockey bag fits in 16.2 cubic feet.
